The Secret Life of Cars
The world is headed towards Autonomous cars. In the future, Autonomous cars will have lives of their own, apart from their owners’ interactions, functions and experiences-ones that their owners may never interface with. Yet, these interactions still require planning, coordination, and review. What experiences might a car with these capabilities have? How does it interact with other vehicles, devices, and places during these experiences? What kinds of interfaces are needed to plan, review, and change the behavior of the car for future interactions? Who has access to these interfaces?

Introducing April Shaw, our extreme target user who is a travel vlogger. She travels solo and to the most exclusive locations that are not well known. She most often finds herself at very dangerous spots, driving through narrow and broken roads. To her, a vehicle is her travel companion accompanying her through all her breath taking moments.
To get a clear sense of the user's needs, we went on a research journey from the start point to finish. It helped us understand her needs, goals and frustrations.
Once we had the problems of the user mapped out, we accumulated all our research insights to synthesise and find a solution. It helped us understand what value we needed to bring to the solution to help the user reach her goal.
Once we got to know the problem areas and where we could intervene , we mapped out the journey with our product to see how it fit in to help deal with all the frustrations.

As a team of 3 women, we brainstormed and decided to design an autonomous vehicle that helps solo travellers get around safely. Our research process helped us discover problems faced by solo travellers, and we chose to focus on bloggers.
I focused on the mechanics of the vehicle and the unique features that pivot around safety & security, the seamless supersized windshield, the integrated camera system among others. As we started developing the concept, we kept researching to find out the latest technology available and we could integrate bits to come up with a vehicle packed with features. We worked around the customer journey tying up loose ends to offer a travel companion that ensures a one of a kind enjoyable experience.
